• Two counts of 3rd-degree gross misdemeanor DWI, gross misdemeanor driving after cancellation and misdemeanor operate vehicle with expired registration charges were filed July 28, 2023 against Michael D. Abbott, 78, 400 Remmele St. S.W. Sleepy Eye.

According to court documents, Sleepy Eye Police Chief Matt Andres was traveling northbound on 3rd Ave. S.W. at 11:22 a.m. May 28, 2022 when he saw a tan SUV traveling southbound on 3rd Ave. S.W. with expired tabs. He stopped the vehicle and detected a alcoholic beverage odor coming from it and recognized the driver as Abbott with intoxication clues. A preliminary breath test registered .273. Abbot was arrested. After a blood search warrant was obtained, Abbott’s blood was drawn at Sleepy Eye Medical Center. Abbott was transported to the Brown County Evaluation Center in New Ulm. Blood kit test results from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension received Aug. 16, 2022 showed Abbott’s ethyl alcohol concentration was .286 at the time the sample was taken.
