Morton man dies in Redwood County crash

REDWOOD COUNTY — A Morton man died in a single-vehicle crash on CSAH 1, north of 270th Street reported at 9:10 p.m. Saturday. Richard Gewerth was driving a vehicle that left the road, entered a ditch and hit a field approach and utility pole. Gewerth was pronounced dead at the scene. Assisting on scene were the Minnesota State Patrol and Centra Care Ambulance. The crash is under investigation, according to a Redwood County Sheriff's Office news release.

Brown Co. board OKs manure compost facility permit

BROWN COUNTY — By a 4-1 vote Tuesday, Brown County Commissioners approved a conditional use permit for a manure composting facility in Prairieville Township. Commissioner Dave Borchert cast a dissenting vote on the application filed by James Heins of Ag Solutions, LLC of Mapleton on property owned by Mathiowetz Construction Co. Action came on a motion by Commissioner Tony Berg, seconded by Commissioner Brian Braun. BROWN COUNTY — Brown County commissioners unanimously approved paving and debris removal quotes Tuesday. Approval of MR Paving & Excavating’s $21,810 quote to pave the improved radius at the north leg of the CSAH 16/TH 14 intersection came on a motion by Commissioner Brian Braun, seconded by Dave Borchert. Three quotes were requested. Only one quote was received. The engineer’s estimate was $22,040. With construction of a truck fuel station at the intersection, the radius in the northeast corner needs improvement for westbound trucks to safely turn north to enter the station. The ...
