Carleton and Cabanilla join Nicollet Public School board

NICOLLET - The Nicollet Public School Board welcomed new members, Abbi Carleton and Mathew Cabanilla on Wednesday. Carleton has lived in Nicollet for 21 years. Two of her children have graduated from Nicollet Public School and two are still attending. Cabanilla lived in rural Nicollet until he moved to Nicollet in 2013. He has a son in the 2nd grade at NPS. The Board took care of many organizational items. The first item was the election of officers. Nicollet Public School reviews cell phone policy

NICOLLET – The Nicollet Public School Board revisited its cell phone policy, during Wednesday’s meeting. The board previously approved a policy for cell phones to be included in the 2024-25 Student/Parent Handbook. This was done to prepare students for the legislation in Minnesota Statute 121A.73 that requires school districts to develop a policy for cell phone use by students by March 15, 2025. Courtland considers ditch maintenance

COURTLAND – The issue of water drainage on Wishbone Way returned to the Courtland City Council. During Thursday’s meeting, resident John Stadick checked on the progress for resolving the water issues on Wishbone Way. Bolton and Menk checked Wishbone Way earlier and found the culverts do drain. The ditch needs cleaning for the water to drain away from the homes. Maintenance and Utilities Supervisor Dave Ubel received a bid which would cost the homeowners about $1,490 each to clean the ditch. Brown Co. board gets into the weeds of cannabis regulations

NEW ULM - As Minnesota is gearing up to open licensing to sell cannabis in 2025, Brown County is working on drafting local ordinances regulating potential cannabis businesses. The county commissioners held a special workshop Tuesday to review a potential draft ordinance on cannabis sales, but several questions remain open for consideration.
