Sleepy Eye FFA wins MN State Fair crop competition

The Sleepy Eye Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter was well represented at the State Fair.

This year seven members showed livestock at the fair; nine members participated in the Chapter Demonstration Competition. One hundred ninety members participated in exhibiting over 1,200 entries for the Ag. Technology, Ag. Literacy, and Crops Competitions at the Minnesota State Fair.

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter earned the first place Premier Chapter Award for the Minnesota State Fair Crop Show. This was the 17th year that Sleepy Eye has won the Minnesota State Fair Crops Competition in the past 19 years.

The Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter earned several Premier Exhibitor Awards including: the Overall Crops Division, Overall Ag Literacy Division, and the Overall Ag Technology Mechanics Division as well as the Chapter Demonstration Competition.

 

The Crop Show Exhibitors earned the following awards:

• Arianna Moore earned the Crops Champion for the Oats Division.

• Raylan Schroepfer had the Champion Barley sample.

• Karly Wendinger exhibited the Champion Rye at the MN State Fair.

• Paola Gonzalez won Champion in her division with her Sunflower, oilseed sample.

FFA Chapter Demonstration Competition:

• Sleepy Eye FFA Chapter was the Grand Champion Winner with their Safety Carnival earning a $1,000 premium. The nine members presented farm safety demonstrations for this competition in the Chapter Leadership House and on the Christensen Farms Stage at the Minnesota State Fair.

Live Ag. Mechanics Competition:

• Ethan Feucht, Elsie Trebesch, and Jaxon Steffl competed in the FFA Live Building Construction Competition at the MN State Fair! They made a bench in less than two-hours while fair-goers watched them work. 

• JP Montemayor competed in the MN State Fair FFA Welding Competition. He MIG Welded a rocket stove in less than 90 minutes. 

FFA Beef:  

• Alex Confer, Jaxon Steffl, and Ethan Feucht exhibited four beef animals at the MN State Fair FFA Beef Show. Jaxon earned Reserve Champion Angus with his senior yearling heifer.

FFA Poultry: 

• Carsten Nienhaus, Karina Martinez, and Alex Confer exhibited seven pens of poultry at the MN State Fair FFA Poultry Show. The chapter won Reserve Champion in herdsmanship and Carsten earned Reserve Champion in colored egg production with his ISA Browns.

FFA Rabbit:

• Carsten Nienhaus, Kylie Fischer, and Karina Martinez exhibited nine rabbits at the MN State Fair FFA Rabbit Show.
