Highway 14 Crops, Livestock, and Soil Innovation event Feb. 22

At Sleepy Eye Event Center

SLEEPY EYE — The Brown Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is partnering with other area SWCDs and organizations to host its second annual Highway 14 Crops, Livestock, and Soil Innovation Conference (CLASIC) Tour stop Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Sleepy Eye Event Center.

Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. Conservationist Jay Fuhrer of Bismarck, N.D. will talk at 10 a.m. about the future of carbon and what it takes to move the carbon needle. He says no-till is not enough.

Fuhrer grew up on a small grain and livestock farm. For 40 years, he worked at the Natural Resources Conservation Service /USDA in Bismarck, sharing his knowledge of healthy soil building with farmers across the U.S. and more than a dozen countries across the globe.

Farming and horticulture consultant Jason Stoll will talk about regenerative agriculture beyond soil and plant health including his farm’s transformation and experience with so-op sales beginning at 11:15 a.m.

Lunch will be provided at 12:15 p.m. Local partner updates start at 12:45 p.m. A panel discussion begins at 1 p.m.

The CLASIC tour will be held in three locations along Highway 14 – Lake Benton, Sleepy Eye, and Owatonna throughout the week of February 21-23, 2023.
