Christmas lights brighten the holiday season
While a number of Christmas events have been postponed or cancelled due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, holiday lights continue to light up the night sky.
Thanks to elbow grease and benevolence of many, Sleepy Eye Holiday Lights in Motion will continue from 5 to 11 p.m. daily through New Year’s Eve in Sportsman’s Park on the north shore of Sleepy Eye Lake.
Free horse-drawn, wheelchair accessible wagon rides and a freewill concession stand continue on Sunday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Dec. 31. Drive and walk through holiday light experiences continue daily. Waiting is minimal on most nights.
Visitors are invited to tune FM radios to 89.1 before entering the park to enhance the experience.
Holiday Lights in motion has been popular for many people including visitors that live an hour away or more.
The park survived the early-December storm with minimal damage. A live nativity adorned the light show Dec. 12.
Kids are invited to drop letters to Santa in the Northpole Mailbox in the Sportsman’s Park cul-de-sac. Tax-deductible donations can be left in an onsite donation box.
Initiated in 2014, Holiday Lights in Motion was greatly aided by five light displays donated by Bob Schabert of Courtland. The lights grew and grew each year.

A number of residential light displays can also be found in area communities including New Ulm. The New Ulm Tour of Lights includes a private Facebook group.
