Great library resources

Off the Shelf

New Ulm Public Library has a wealth of resources: from collections to technology, programs to skilled librarians. I want to share a few resources that you might not know that we offer. As with any library resources, our staff are happy to assist you.

Do you have a desire to learn another language but don’t know where to start? Check out Mango Languages, a language-learning tool offered in partnership with the Traverse des Sioux Regional Library. Mango Languages offers courses in over seventy world languages for learners of all ages and skill levels. They even offer an app to make on-the-go learning easy. Visit www.newulmlibrary.org and choose Digital Library to get started.

Sometimes learning a new board game can feel a little like learning a new language. Don’t worry: your New Ulm Public Library staff members are here to help. Watch our New Ulm Community Access Television Station (NUCAT) show, “Don’t Forget to Read the Instructions.” Episodes are available on the New Ulm Public Library’s YouTube station. In “Don’t Forget to Read the Instructions,” library and NUCAT staff play through a board game to show you the basic rules and give you a feel for game play. Games featured in the series are available for checkout at the library.

If you enjoy a curated experience, check out one of our storytime kits. Each kit contains three picture books, a puppet, and rhymes and songs for you to share with your young reader. Our storytime kits are seasonally-themed, but can be enjoyed year-round. Visit www.newulmlibrary.org and choose Library Catalog to request a kit.

One resource that can be enjoyed no matter the weather is our virtual author series. This resource is also provided through the Traverse des Sioux Regional Library. Upcoming virtual author events include Liane Moriarty, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, and more. You can also view the recordings of past virtual author events. Visit www.newulmlibrary.org and choose Digital Library, then Virtual Author Visits to register for upcoming events and access the past event recordings.

If you’d like to keep up with what’s happening at the library, including new resources, services, and library events, sign up for our newsletters. Our monthly email newsletter includes information about library events, updates, and staff book recommendations. Our weekly Wowbrary email newsletter provides a list of everything that we’ve added to our collection each week. You can link from the Wowbrary newsletter to our catalog to place requests for items that catch your interest. To sign up for these newsletters, visit www.newulmlibrary.org and choose Stay Connected.
