Summertime

Off the Shelf

Here we are at the start of July. Summer seems to be flying by. I hope by the time you read this the rain has stopped and the flooding has subsided.

We have a couple sweet summertime cookbooks coming soon. How does a cold, frosty popsicle or some ice cream sound on a hot summer day? Both of these treats are easy to make at home. The first one is “Awesome Ice Pops: 70 Cool Treats” by Andrew Chase. These recipes cover everything from sweet to cocktail inspired frozen treats. “Wanderlust Creamery Presents the World of Ice Cream” by Adrienne Borlongan is definitely more involved and artisanal, so if you are feeling adventurous this is the ice cream book for you. Come in and browse the 641.862 section of our nonfiction area for many more summertime treat books.

If you are looking for some new ideas for your smoker – anything from main dishes, sides and sauces – you will be interested in “Weeknight Smoking on Your Traeger and Other Pellet Grills” by Adam McKenzie (641.616 McKenzi). Go beyond roasting marshmallows over your campfire and take a look at “Easy Campfire Cooking: 200+ Family Fun Recipes for Cooking over Coals and in the Flames with a Dutch Oven, Foil Packets, and More!” (641.578 Easy). I think I should plan a campfire meal very soon!

Don’t forget about all the fun things we have available in our Library of Things collection. You can check out yard games, such as badminton, collapsible corn hole, disc toss, pickleball and also many board games for those rainy days spent indoors. Did you know we also have life jackets for the whole family that you can check out with your library card?

If your summer vacation involves a road trip, of course we have books to read on the trip, but you can also download ebooks and audiobooks for the whole family to enjoy using our Libby app. Let us know if you need more information about the Libby app. We will get you all set up before you go.

Keep the library in mind this summer. Come in out of the heat; it is always cool at the library!
