Rec Center closing announcement/update: The Rec Center will be closing on designated dates through the end of construction; expected late summer:

March 29 thru construction – Racquetball Courts CLOSED

April 3 & 10 (Saturday) – hours will be 7 a.m.-12 noon

April 4 – Rec Center closed for Easter holiday

April 12 – Remainder of Rec Center campus CLOSED thru construction

April 12-18 Fitness Equipment will be relocated to the Civic Center, 1212 N. Franklin St.

April 19 – Civic Center will be open for Fitness equipment use, classes and walking

Red Cross Lifeguard Training offered as blended learning course March 18-21. Completion of online work required prior to start of class. The precourse test of swimming 300 yards (6 laps) using front crawl and breaststroke, tread water for 2 minutes with no hands and retrieve a 10 pound brick from 7 to 10 feet of water, swim 20 yards back to side of pool and get out without using ladder or stairs within 1 minute 40 seconds will be administered at the Lake Crystal Area Rec Center, but the remainder of the course will be held at New Ulm Best Western’s Pool. Upon successful completion of the course and at least 80 percent score on final exam, participants will be awarded with two-year certification to lifeguard at a pool The New Ulm Park and Rec will be recruiting many lifeguards for its new indoor pool scheduled to open late summer! Applicants must be Red Cross Certified to be considered for these positions. Rec Center is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Masks must be worn at all times, including when working out or playing sports. Everyone entering must do a self-screening at the door prior to entering. If you answer yes to any of the questions, you may not enter. Everyone must check in at the Welcome desk prior to exercising and maintain 9′ physical distance. Members are asked to limit socializing while in the building. Please bring your own water bottle, as the water fountains remain turned off.

Fitness Classes continued to be offered with membership or $5 walk-in fee. Please check the schedule at newulmmn.gov for dates, times, location and Zoom options. Online, advance 24-hour pre-registration required for Zoom access to Weekend Warrior Classes and Zumba. Please reach out to sandyb@newulmmn.gov or 233-2121, extension 204 to get a link added for a class.

Please check the website for open skate, figure skate, hockey, broomball and rock on ice dates/times.

Additional Open Skate and Hockey added Fridays from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. through March.

Rock on Ice is scheduled for Friday, March 19. Pre-registration is required online at newulmmn.gov or at the Rec Center. Skate rentals available. Limited to 25.

The Community Center – Meals on Wheels and takeout meals are operating. Call 359-2243 for delivery or reserve a meal for pick up.

Rec Center Construction Update – Helical piers for the pool foundation are complete and work on the pool has started. Sheetrock, taping and painting in several areas is underway. Ceiling lighting and tile is being installed. Construction photos of the progress can be found on our Facebook page.

Memorial/Gift Giving Ideas -purchase one or more paver stone(s) with your inscription(s), in the walkways near Hermann Monument and/or German Park for $200 each, contact the Park & Rec office at 359-8344. Park or trail benches range in price from $1,500 to $3,500 each, call 359-8344.
