NEW ULM — Water Grams was charged Friday — in the county court where he formerly served as clerk — with felony theft of public funds.
Grams had resigned his post as clerk of district and county court in Brown County June 3.
The criminal complaint was signed by County Atty. Robert Berens, whose investigation led to Grams’ resignation.
Grams was charged with cashing three checks worth $22, made payable to the clerk’s office, at a local bank and taking the money for his own personal use.

A number of streets were washed out Friday night as thunderstorms drenched New Ulm with 2.13 inches of rain.
Damage throughout the area was scattered and apparently, in most cases, minor. Rain drenched most of The Journal area both Friday and Saturday.
IN NEW ULM, a city street official reported that a number of streets were washed out because of the storm.
One street, 16th S. between German and Valley, has been closed. Street workers worked on parts of the street Saturday, but the major repair project will not begin until Monday.

NEW ULM Battery recently won first in the annual Western Civil War Skirmish Association shoot at Eau Claire, Wis., proving it is on target as well as in demand for ceremonial appearances. Stan Mack, holding sabre, mustered the battery last fall to do a performance for students of Journalism brought to New Ulm by Prof. Flip Schulke from University of Missouri. These pictures were taken at that time. Battery’s next appearance is the annual Fourth of July dawn shoot at the cemetery. That evening Battery will fire a salute at the Fireworks show in Johnson Park.
