Polling the largest vote in the

history of the city, New Ulm citizens

went to the polls Tuesday

to cast their choice for the various

county and state offices. It was the

largest vote ever recorded in the

city, 3224 citizens participating. As

a result of the large vote cast in the

city most of the present incumbents

were able to pile up a large enough

majority to carry them through to

victory. The only exception was the

case of County Attorney Streissguth

who ran 75 votes behind his opponent

in this city, but overcame this

handicap and turned out a winner by

close to 500 votes. It was the most

hotly fought contest held in the

county for some time.

"Old Guard" Carries County

The "old guard" of the courthouse

was able to garner enough

votes in New Ulm to retain them

in office. County Auditor Louis G.

Vogel carried the city of New Ulm

by 480 majority but ran a trifle behind

in the balance of the county

and finally won out by a majority of

456 votes.

County Treasurer Berg piled up

the greatest majority of all the candidates

in New Ulm coming out

victorious in this city by 791 votes.

Like the rest of the incumbents he

also fell behind in the other precincts

out of the city his majority

being somewhat cut by the time the

total vote was counted.

Sheriff Wm. J. Julius had the

closest run of all the candidates carrying

New Ulm by a margin of 352

votes. He was able to maintain this

lead by a close run against his opponent

Edward Wagner but this final

majority was also cut somewhat

until it had reached 229.

County Attorney T. O. Streissguth

was the only victorious candidate

who did not carry the city. He

ran 75votes behind in New Ulm but

the voters of the rest of the county

favored him over his opponent Albert

D. Flor and when all the votes

were counted he led by the comfortable

margin of 489 votes.

In the county commissioner districts

all the old incumbents were returned

altho some had a very close

fight. Those returned are Jos. G.

Tauer 1st district, John M. Johnson,

2nd district, and Henry S. Romberg,

fourth district These were the

only offices for which a contest was

waged, the other offices all being

elected without opposition.

Republicans Carry State

As was expected the republican

party carried the state by a large majority.

Had the rest of the counties

in the state gone like Brown County

the vote would have been entirely

different for Magnus Johnson gave

Christianson a hard fight and finally

carried the county by 104 votes. The

rest of the state ticket went the same

way as the governorship.
