Bowlers of Minnesota, looking forward to several months of trundling prior to the International Bowling association, state amateur and local tournaments, are practicing and shining pet mineralites for the coming season.
In a number of communities, league organization is already perfected, and this week saw the beginning of competition that will continue until March and April. Elsewhere, circuit formation is in its early stages, and propelling of the heavy spheres will not be officially launched until next month.
Inter-city rolling, with teams of several communities participating, is planned in several parts of the state, with one such loop already organized.
Tourney League in S.W.
In southwestern Minnesota, where more tournaments were held last season than ever before, a tournament league is under consideration. If adopted, meets will be held in each city late in the season, with member towns sending teams, the number being based upon the size of local leagues.
Stillwater is already lined up with other cities for a straightaway inter-city loop, and early in October enters competition with Bayport, Hudson, Lincoln and Mahtomedi.
Eight teams from the five communities will hold membership, it is planned.
Two leagues are again planned for Austin. Recreation alleys in the Packer city are already open, and organization is planned to begin rolling before the end of the month.
City leaguers are already practicing at Mankato. Three and perhaps four leagues will be run in the Key city, with Loyola club heads sponsoring one and Recreation clubs two or three teams.
At Winona, a women's league will again be in the field, as well as several for men. One league rolled the first ball Monday, another last evening and a third this evening.
Sixteen at New Ulm
Sixteen teams will be in the running in this city, members of the City and Home leagues. The opening matches are being shot this week.
Duluth, Sleepy Eye, Windom, Glencoe, Hutchinson, Lake Crystal, Owatonna, Rochester, Albert Lea, Faribault, South St. Paul, Robbinsdale, St. Cloud, Hibbing, Virginia, Anoka, St. Peter and Le Sueur are other Minnesota cities in which bowling will be a popular fall and winter sport.
