Wolves on the Ferdinand Crone farm near Courtland have been killing sheep during the past month and at the present time there are twenty-five sheep missing from the flock. It is understood that there is a pack of ten wolves in that vicinity and they have visited the farm of Mr. Hulke in that vicinity also killing one sheep.

Destroying Sheep

Jim Macho, tenant on the farm, went to the pasture to get the cattle early one morning and saw the body of a sheep lying in the pasture. It was believed at first that the dog had done the damage but one day as Mr. Macho went into the pasture he saw a large wolf among the sheep. Since that time Mr. Macho and his sons have been watching for the culprit but have been unsuccessful.

Sees Pack of Ten

Otto Poehler of that vicinity re-ports having seen a pack of ten wolves one morning. It is believed that these are the pests that are destroying the young sheep on the Crone farm. It will be interesting to know that the wolves eat only the heart and the lungs of a sheep and the carcass is left lying in the pasture or barn yard, wherever the attack has been made. At night members of the Macho family have heard the wolves in the trees around the house but when an approach has been made the animals disappear. One day last week while picking cherries, Mrs. Macho states that a wolf was seen in the grove and that it looked like a police dog, being brown and tan and was about that size. Efforts are being made by neighbors to help the Macho family bag the wolves.
