Mrs. W. W. Smith, Sleepy Eye, Is Named First Vice President About 135

Delegates Present.

New Ulm will entertain the annual convention of the Women’s Federated clubs of the Second district next May. This was one of the closing actions taken by the delegates at Windom Wednesday morning. The district convention was held here a number of years ago.

Favor Law Enforcement

Responding unanimously to the call of the Responding unanimously to the call of the president to “show their colors and bring their influence to bear upon the right side in a national crisis, women from 13 counties and 52 towns, numbering about 135, at the annual convention of the Second District Minnesota Federation of Women’s clubs, at Windom, Tuesday, demanded stricter enforcement of the federal prohibition law. They asked, further, that women throughout the state bend their efforts to bring about greater respect and more widespread observance of all laws. Mrs. J. K. Campbell of Slayton, district president, introduced the prohibition resolution, and her appeal was greeted with storms of applause from the 300 women in the convention hall.

Mrs. Cheadle Honored.

By acclamation the delegates endorsed Mrs. Alton B. Cheadle of Jackson to be the second district candidate for first vice president of the Minnesota Federation of Women’s clubs. Her name will be presented at the annual state convention to be held in Morris in September. Unanimous votes were given Mrs. W. W Smith of Sleepy Eye for the office of vice president of the district, and to Mrs. A. H. Enersen of Lamberton for recording secretary.

Windom Wins Choral Contest

Windom won first place and Tracy second in the choral contest the district. Other clubs competing were from Springfield and Lakefield.

Delegates were taken for an auto mobile ride and were entertained at dinner Tuesday evening. The convention closed Wednesday morning with a business session.

Attend Convention

Mesdames H. Bendixen, F. A. Kallusky and H. H. Walter were present from New Ulm. Mrs. Bendixen is a member of one of the Springfield clubs and Mrs. Kallusky and Mrs. Walter were the delegates of the Current News club. A large number of Sleepy Eye and Springfield ladies were in attendance.

Brown county was one of the few counties from which no report was received of the activities of the county organization, and read at the convention.
