New Ulm will be the city entertaining the State Firemen’s Convention this year, June 15 and 16 being the dates. The local department is busy making all the plans necessary and are arranging for the accommodation of 1000 guests. There are over 350 fire departments in the state and all of the organizations will be represented. Fire Chief Fred Pfaender has appointed his committees and they are at work now.

Drive For Funds.

A Citizens Committee has been appointed and is composed of the following members: Otto Oswald, Chairman; Andrew Saffert, Ferd. Crone, George Mati, W. J. Julius, John P. Graff, J. A. Ochs and Walter Muesing. These men are making a drive in the city next week for funds. A total sum of $2500 will be necessary to pay the convention expenses and this drive will aid materially. It is expected that at least $2000 will be raised by donations and little difficulty is expected as the fire boys do not get paid for their services and this is one of the times when appreciation can be shown.

Members of the Convention Committee are: Henry Engel, Fred Pfaender, Alfred Schroeck, Chas. Brust, Sr., Fred Loesch, Hy. C. Groebner, Chas. Emmerich, Louis G. Vogel, Fred W. Oswald, Frank Niemann, Sr., and Peter Herrian.

Following tie parade, firemen and their guests will be entertained at a supper at Turner Hall. The meal will be served cafeteria style and tables will be arranged thruout the entire building So that all guests will be seated. In the evening the visitors will be entertained by a Gymnastic exhibition by the Turner classes. More than 250 men and women will take part. Daneing will be enjoyed at Turner Hall and the Armory after this exhibition.

On the morning of the second day, various business matters will be discussed while the organization is in session. Chief Pfaender will preside at all sessions. It is possible that a demonstration of handling equipment etc., will be shown during the afternoon. A water polo will be open to any of the delegations who will care to enter. Prizes of $15, $10 and $5are being offered to the winners by the local department. The convention will close with dances at both the Turner Hall and the Armory.

Housing Problem.

Entertaining the State convention is a huge undertaking and the local department has asked that all citizens of this city who can accommodate delegates by renting rooms for the two day session, communicate with Frank Niemann as soon as possible. It is hoped that private rooms can be secured to take care of the housing problem and any information regarding the same can be given by communicating with any member of the Convention Committee.
