Tom Davis, Candidate for Governor, Will Address Meeting Here Early in May.

Veteran Campaigner, Will Likely Make Magnus Eat Assertion, He Has Brown County in Pocket.

——–

Tom Davis, than whom there is no more vitriolic and seasoned campaigner in Minnesota, and who is a candidate for the farmer-labor nomination as governor, was in New Ulm Monday. He was accompanied by Ernie Lundeen, former congressman from the Minneapolis district. Two other Minneapolis politicians – Messrs. Pewters and Harrigan – also accompanied Mr. Davis to New Ulm.

The Minneapolis attorney and his political associates made a friendly call in this city, and visited a number of their political friends, among whom was Dr. L. A. Fritsche. They were looking over the political situation in Brown county, to ascertain from which direction the wind is going to blow at the coming primary.

Recently while Magnus Johnson, the other farmer-labor candidate for governor, was in New Ulm he asserted he would not have to campaign here, as he had Brown county tucked away in his pocket. Tom Davis will likely contest this assertion. Tom has many friends among the farmer-labor group in this county and no doubt will be given a good vote at the coming primary.

Will Arrange Meeting.

While here Davis stated that he would arrange for a public meeting in this city early in May. There is no doubt but that he will wade into Magnus with a glowing harpoon, for when Tom talks politics he usually gives forth considerable vitriol.

The fact that Magnus and Tom a Davis are contesting for the farmer-labor nomination justifies the assertion that the campaign will be interesting, so much so that members of that party will remain in their own fold this year and not mix in the Republican contest.
