Former Lacked But Half Point for Perfect Score in Shorthand.–Latter
One Point Shy

Lacking only half a point for a perfect score, Eleanor Neemann of this city took first honors in shorthand at the district contest in high school commercial work, which was held at Marshall, Saturday. Her standing was 991/2%. Elmer Radloff, another New Ulm high school student, captured second place in the same contest with a score of 99%. No third prize was awarded, due to the low percentage made by the student who placed third.
First in Typing, Too.
Miss Neemann also was awarded highest honors in advanced typewriting, having written at the rate of 87.9 words per minute with seven errors. Elmer Radloff scored third in this contest, with a rate of 50.5 words per minute and 20 errors. Second place went to Clara Geske of Marshall, who wrote 55 words per minute with 20 errors.
Oradell Wagner, also a student of the New Ulm high school, placed second in the beginners’ typewriting contest with a rate of 38.2 words per minute and 31 errors. First and third honors went to two Lake Benton high school students, Gertrude Miller and Eva Scharcin, respectively. The former’s rate was 38.9 words per minute with 14 errors, and the latter wrote 36.6 words per minute with 15 errors.
Enter State Contest.
Miss Neemann and Elmer Radloff will represent this district in the state high school shorthand and typewriting contests, to be held at University Farm, St. Paul, Saturday, May 1.
This district comprises nine high schools in as many cities, namely, Lake Benton,Springfield, New Ulm, Redwood Falls, Tracy, Marshall, Ivanhoe, Sleepy Eye and Tyler. The three latter were not represented at the district contest, in which 25 students participated
