“Perfumes” Interior of Deputy Sheriff Wm. H. Gieseke’s Sedan.

No one can deny that the moonshine, which Nels K. Hilland, Comfrey cream station operator, is charged with having in possession, is high-powered stuff, for, according to Deputy Sheriff William H. Gieseke, who carted it to New Ulm as evidence, after Hilland was arrested, Saturday afternoon, it completely wrecked a five-gallon glass jar, and blew the cork out of a stoneware jug while enroute here. The interior of Mr. Gieseke’s sedan was “perfumed” so thoroughly with the pungent odor of the booze that not even a thorough disinfection with formaldehyde was sufficient to obliterate the smell.
Nine Gallons Found
Upon receiving complaint that moonshine was being disposed of at Comfrey, the sheriff’s office obtained a search warrant, and Deputy Gieseke drove over to that village, armed with the document. He experienced no great difficulty in locating nine gallons of the stuff, whereupon it was confiscated and Hilland placed under arrest. There was one five-gallon glass jar filled with white mule, while the other four gallons were contained in three stoneware jugs.
Hilland Bound Over.
Hilland was lodged in the county jail here upon arrival, and the “evidence” placed in safe-keeping. Monday afternoon, the man had his preliminary hearing before City Justice N. Henningsen of this city, waived examination, and was bound over to the Brown county district court under $500 bail. It is expected that Hilland will petition District Judge I. M. Olsen for permission to plead guilty.
Served 30 Days.
Two years ago, Hilland also was arrested and charged with having moonshine in his possession. At that time he was sentenced by the court to serve 30 days in the county jail, which he did.
