Need of more extensive health work in Brown county during the coming year was stressed by Mrs. Ora Trautman county Christmas Seal Campaign director in an appeal made to local managers to make every effort to increase the Christmas Seal Sale proceeds this year. Quoting statistics received from the Minnesota Public Health Association, the county director showed that the demand for intensive anti-tuberculosis work was present in this county, as well as thruout the state.

Tuberculosis Is Curable

"A total of 159 Brown County people have died of tuberculosis since 1913, according to the report from the State Association," says the County Director in this appeal. "Of these 99 were between the ages of 18 and 45, the period when a person is the most serious loss to their families and to the community. Last year alone 14 people of the county died of tuberculosis, and it is estimated that there are now approximately 126 active cases. We must hold more tuberculosis clinics to ferret out unsuspected cases in their early and curable stages, and extend education thru lectures, exhibits and free literature. Deaths from tuberculosis are doubly tragic in this day, when the disease is known to be curable and preventable.

Many Children Are Victims

"The state association's report also shows that 58 Brown county children under 16 years of age died from all causes in 1924, a number of these as a result of preventable diseases. The Christmas Seal health program works to prevent needless illness and deaths among children.
