Completion near for new library

2 min read
GETTING THERE-Construction work on New Ulm’s new library building is approaching completion. After completing the construction work, which involves some clean up and patch work, only carpeting, electrical work and installation of furnishings will be left. Library officials are cautiously hopeful that the move to the new building might come some time in December.

Crates and boxes filled with electrical equipment and furnishings are crowding into the New Ulm's new library building as it begins to take shape.

Officials, while not bouncing with optimism, cautiously indicate the completion of building could be a matter of weeks away.

CONSTRUCTION work on the new building is about 95 per cent completed.

Alfred Tietel, vice president of Heymann Construction Co., said Monday that construction workers basically have only some ceiling work and a little clean-up and patch work left to do.

After that, only electrical work, carpeting and furnishing has to be completed before the library is able to move its materials to the new structure.

CHRISTINE DAWSON, head librarian, while emphasizing that no definite date can as yet be estimated, indicated that the new facility could be in operation some time in December.

"The moving date could be in December, barring hangups," she said.

She said the library staff hasn't as yet, however, begun packaging books and materials for the move.

Instead, Mrs. Dawson said, the library plans to close for a week or two when the new building is completed to make the move.

That way, she said, disruption for library patrons will be short and less acute.

"It's the only way we can move and settle the library," she said."But right now, we don't know when and we don't know for how long."
