A FARMER west of New Ulm chops corn for silage, leaving rows behind for use in government disaster aid appraisal. Many farmers are cutting more silage this year due to the drought. For each 80 rows of corn harvested, farmers leave four rows standing. Government appraisers use the rows to determine what the grain yield might have been.
