Lauds Warning Sounded Against Fakirs.

That Elliott Wilkinson and Roy L. Martin, fake “eye specialists,” who forfeited $8,000 cash bail by not appearing at the last December term of the Brown county district court to answer to charges of obtaining money under false pretenses, successfully “worked” well-to-do residents of Texas and succeeded in cleverly evading arrest in that state, was brought out at a regional meeting of optometrists, held in Austin, Texas, recently. When matters got too “warm” for the fakirs in the Lone Star state, they sought greener fields and removed their sphere of nefarious activity to Minnesota, it is said.
Journal Publicity Lauded
Several months ago, the Journal published a detailed report of the operations of Wilkinson and Martin in this vicinity, together with photographs of the two spurious “eye doctors.” A copy of that issue of the Journal was sent to Dr. E. H. Kieckenapp of Faribault, secretary of the National Optometrical association, by Dr. H. O. Schleuder of this city, and Dr. Kieckenapp submitted the article to the regional meeting at Austin, Texas, which he attended. He informs Dr. Schleuder that the meeting discussed ways and means of combating fake eye specialists and commended the Journal for its enterprise in exposing Wilkinson and Martin as a timely warning to the public generally.
