Shelf life added to COVID tests

On March 29, 2022, the FDA granted a three-month shelf-life extension for the iHealth COVID-19 Antigen Rapid Test, which extended the shelf-life of iHealth tests with expiration dates on or before 2022-09-29 (Sept. 29, 2022) from six to nine months. For example, if the expiration date printed on your box says 2022-05-21 (May 21, 2022), the updated expiration date is 2022-08-21 (Aug. 21, 2022).

You can also visit the company’s website to check each lot’s expiration date at https://ihealthlabs.com/pages/news.

Health test kits have been delivered from the federal government and from the state of Minnesota to those who have requested them. Brown County Public Health has also distributed test kits throughout the county in an effort to provide kits to those who have barriers to access them. Kits are still available.

Testing has been an important step in the prevention of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. While the number of positive cases have been declining in recent weeks, testing continues to be important and easier to obtain.

The availability of rapid at-home test kits have increased in the recent months, making testing more convenient for county residents.

For questions regarding the expansion of expiration dates or about where to find test kits, contact Brown County Public Health at 507-233-6820.
