Donnelly returns to New Ulm, working on baseball novel

NEW ULM — Former New Ulm Journal Sports Writer Pat Donnelly, who wrote for The Journal from 1985 through 1990, is in the process of writing a fictional baseball book that is based on his experiences as a player with the New Ulm Brewers from 1988 through 1991. Donnelly was in New Ulm last weekend for the DI American Legion State Baseball Tournament and did some PA work for games. ALEXANDRIA — The New Ulm Junior Gold baseball team fell to the Eagan Patriots 6-5 on Friday night in a DI Junior Legion State Baseball Tournament elimination game. The loss ended the Junior Gold’s season with a 22-10 record. Brewers fall to Hastings in 1A playoff opener

HASTINGS — The New Ulm Brewers opened play in the Section 1A Amateur Baseball Tournament this past Saturday by falling to the Hastings Hawks 4-1. The Brewers fell to the elimination bracket with the loss and will travel to take on Dundas in a win-or-go-home game at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Brewers took the first lead in the first inning with a sac fly from Sam Keckeisen that scored Colten Schaefer, who led off with a walk.
