SE City Council OKs City Hall project plans

SLEEPY EYE — The Sleepy Eye City Council unanimously approved final plans and specifications for the City Hall renovation project June 27.

Sleepy Eye native Eric Oleson of Oleson & Hobbie Architects of Mankato said the project that will include extensive remodeling including removal and replacement of the city building’s ballast roof and creation of a new police station will be put to bid July 2.

Bids for the project, estimated to cost $750,000 to $800,000 would be considered by the July city council meeting. If approved, the project could proceed on July 23 with a Dec. 14 completion date.

“I’ve learned from some contractors that costs have risen 10 to 15 percent, due to new tariffs,” Oleson said. “I also think it’s a perfect time to bid with many contractors looking for work after doing other projects this year.”

Sleepy Eye City Manager Mark Kober said the project could be reconsidered if bids don’t come in right.

The city council unanimously approved annexation of the fourth Snow property and Snow 4th Addition plat and a multi-family to residential zoning change for Dean Mathiowetz, Lot 4, Blk. 1, Mathiowetz 3rd Addition.
