Prep roundup: Wabasso sweeps Cathedral in volleyball, St. Mary’s, GFW earn splits

Wabasso 3, Cathedral 0

WABASSO — Wabasso swept New Ulm Cathedral 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 in Tomahawk Conference volleyball action on Thursday.

Maddy Guetter had 21 kills and 18 digs and Gina Goblirsch had 13 kills. Megan Rothmeier had 15 digs and Gina Goblirsch had 11 digs. Jenna Frank had 36 set assists.

St. Mary’s 3, Springfield 0

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Springfield 25-10, 25-22, 25-20 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Springfield was led by Brittany Rogotzke who had 33 digs. Also for Springfield, Katelyn Hauth had nine kills and a block, Brandi Platz had five kills, Arynzi Rabb had 10 set assists, and Eva Mark had seven set assists.

St. Mary’s was led by Jody Hansen’s 24 set assists. Ali Beltz had 16 kills and 19 digs. Kelsie Kosak had 17 digs.

Springfield (0-20) plays at the Subway Tournament in Marshall on Saturday and Sunday. St. Mary’s plays in St. Clair on Saturday at 9 a.m.

GFW 3, BLHS 0

HECTOR — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop swept Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match on Thursday.

For BLHS, Keegan Hanson had 20 digs and Jacxi Fernandez finished with 16 digs. Anna Buboltz had 10 set assists and Sara Kottke had seven kills.

Alden-Conger 3, Madelia 0

MADELIA — Alden-Conger defeated Madelia 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 on Thursday in a Valley conference volleyball game.

Madelia was led by Lizzie Cooling who was 13-for-13 serving with three kills, four digs and a block. Also for Madelia, Stef Sotelo was 10-for-10 serving with an ace, 12 kills and six digs, Alayna DeLaCruz had six kills and two blocks, and Carissa Caraway had five kills and three blocks.

Alden-Conger and Madelia (10-12, 4-2) play at the St. Clair Tournament on Saturday.

Nicollet 3, JWP 0

JANESVILLE — Nicollet swept Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 25-20, 25-15, 26-24 in nonconference volleyball on Thursday.

Lindsey Boerger had nine kills and 14 digs and Jessi Johnson had eight kills and 15 digs to lead the Raiders.

Boys’ soccer

Mankato Loyola 11,

New Ulm 5

MANKATO — Mankato Loyola crushed New Ulm 11-5 in Big South Conference boys’ soccer on Thursday.

Wyatt Huard scored four goals to lead New Ulm. Brandon Ocampo had two assists while Jack Howard and Alex Gutzke each had one assist. Andy Dake scored the other New Ulm goal.

Matthew Janke had three saves and Josiah Plocher had one save.
