NEW ULM — KNUJ held its 61st annual Fall Player of the Year event Tuesday at the Best Western Plus to select players of the year for volleyball and football.

KNUJ selected co-winners for its Volleyball Player of the Year, choosing Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Josie Helget and Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial’s Nettie Parsons. Helget finished the season with 820 set assists, 203 digs, 53 aces, 46 kills and 14 blocks.

For the Offensive Football Player of the Year, KNUJ selected Carter Therkilsen of Red Rock Central. Therkilsen rushed for 2,721 yards and 31 touchdowns and added 76 yards receiving and another touchdown.

The Defensive Player of the Year was BOLD’s Emmitt Flann. Flann set the school record for tackles for loss in a season with 17 and had another school record with 20 tackles in a single game.
