SLEEPY EYE — The Lamberton Long Sox topped the Hanska Lakers 5-2 on Sunday evening in a Region 2C amateur baseball winner’s bracket playoff game.

The Long Sox were led by Neil Eichten’s three hits and a two-run home run by Colby Pack. Eli Fest got the win in 7 1/3 innings of work, while Carter Benz got the final four outs of the game in relief.

Hanska was led by Sam Knowles, who had four hits. Kevin Larson added two hits for the Lakers. Aaron Portner took the loss on the mound.

Lamberton will next take on New Ulm at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night in Sleepy Eye for a state tournament berth. The loser of that game drops to an elimination game Saturday afternoon.

Hanska now plays Springfield at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Fairfax in a win-or-go-home elimination bracket game.

Springfield 8, Gibbon 0

FAIRFAX — The Springfield Tigers shut out the Gibbon Reds 8-0 on Sunday afternoon in a Region 2C amateur baseball elimination bracket playoff game.

The loss ends the Reds’ season, while Springfield moves on to a meeting with Hanska at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Fairfax.

Mason Rummel was 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead Springfield at the plate, while Sam Baier was 1 for 3 with a homer and three runs scored. Justin Haugo earned the complete-game shutout win, giving up just one hit and no walks while fanning 12.

Kyle Mauer got Gibbon’s lone hit of the day in the second inning. Nolan Huiras took the loss in seven innings, giving up five hitd and four walks for two earned runs while striking out four.

Stark 5, Leavenworth 1

FAIRFAX — The Stark Longhorns defeated the Leavenworth Orioles 5-1 on Sunday evening in a Region 2C amateur baseball elimination bracket playoff game.

The loss ends Leavenworth’s season, while Stark will take on Courtland at 7:30 p.m. Monday night in Sleepy Eye in another elimination bracket game.

Zach Haala got the complete-game win, giving up one run on eight hits and three walks while striking out four. David Surprenant, Tim Seifert and Mason Cox each had two hits to lead Stark at the plate.

No stats were available for Leavenworth.
