SLEEPY EYE — Minnesota Valley Lutheran shocked first-place Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday.

Carson Domeier led the Knights with 19 points and Kaleb Wait had 17 points.

Cole Thompson led MVL with 22 points and Ben Pearson had 18 points. Will Kaesserman had 15 points.

MVL is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday and St. Mary’s is at New Ulm Cathedral on Thursday.

Springfield 85, GFW 58

WINTHROP — Springfield crushed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Carter Hillesheim led Springfield with 25 points and Easton Taylor had 14 points for GFW.

Springfield hosts Wabasso on Thursday and GFW hosts BOLD on Thursday.

MCW 50, Madelia 43

MADELIA — Martin County West defeated Madelia in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Ja’Sean Glover had 25 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Hayden Jones finished with 9 points.

Madelia (4-6) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart.

BLHS 74, Sleepy Eye 46

SLEEPY EYE — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart topped Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Caden Evers led Sleepy Eye with 9 points.

Sleepy Eye hosts Cedar Mountain on Thursday.

MORGAN — Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda defeated Cedar Mountain in nonconference boys’ basketball on Tuesday.

Branndon Pendleton led the Cougars with 19 points and Max Pendleton had 11 points.

Cedar Mountain is at Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

Nicollet 64, GHEC 57

NICOLLET — Nicollet defeated Granada-Huntley-East Chain in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Conner Martens led Nicollet with 18 points and Cody Strunk had 17 points. Grant Bruns finished with 12 points and Colton Thomsen scored 11.

Nicollet (6-8) hosts St. Clair on Thursday.

Girls’ basketball

Springfield 58, GFW 52

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield topped Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 58-52 on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Leading the Tigers was Brooklyn Sturm, who had 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Megan Ploeger also had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Maddy Digmann had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists and Tori Roiger had 10 points and five rebounds.

GFW was led by Brynn Busse’s 21 points, while Morgan Aylsworth had 10 points.

Springfield (6-10, 4-7) hosts Wabasso on Thursday, while GFW (9-9, 4-8) is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Friday.

BLHS 75, Sleepy Eye 60

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Kadence Hesse led the Indians with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Brea Mertz had 15 points and eight rebounds and Kaydince Thoms had 11 points and seven rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (15-3, 10-2) is at Cedar Mountain on Friday.

NEW ULM — Wabasso defeated New Ulm Cathedral in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Bella Brand had 17 points and Kelsey Frank had 14 points for Wabasso.

FAIRMONT — New Ulm defeated Martin County Area in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet on Tuesday.

Kayla Goblirsch led New Ulm with 35.9 on the all-around, finishing with an 8.975 on vault, 8.4 on bars, 9.325 on beam and 9.2 on the floor.

Emily Guggisberg finished with an 8.6 on vault and Laura Bertrang had an 8.55. Emma Radloff had a 7.9 on bars and Guggisberg had an 8.4 on beam while Kiah Helget had an 8.25. Guggisberg had an 8.7 on floor.

Girls’ hockey

New Ulm 6, Fairmont 1

FAIRMONT — New Ulm defeated Fairmont in a Big South Conference girls’ hockey game on Tuesday.

Madi O’Connor led the Eagles with three goals and Afton Hulke scored two goals. Michelle Smith also had a goal for New Ulm.

New Ulm is at Waseca on Thursday.
