Area roundup: MVL girls down Cedar Mountain

MVL 64, CM 34

MORGAN — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Cedar Mountain in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game on Friday night.

Abbie Riederer led the Chargers with 16 points and Kaylee Hunter finished with 12 points and had five assists. Mia Johnson scored 9 points, had five assists and had five steals and Ella Schlei scored 8 and grabbed eight rebounds for the Chargers.

For Cedar Mountain, Megan Sandgren had 10 points and seven rebounds.

MVL is at Wabasso on Tuesday and Cedar Mountain is at New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday.

Boys’ Basketball

St. Mary’s 78, TMB 64

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the Sleepy Eye Invitational on Friday.

Will Walter led the Knights with 22 points and Trent Steffensmeier scored 16 points and had seven assists. Carson Domeier scored 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had seven assists and Kaleb Wait had 12 points and seven rebounds.

St. Mary’s plays Murray County Central at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Sleepy Eye Invitational.

MCC 52, Sleepy Eye 19

SLEEPY EYE — Murray County Central crushed Sleepy Eye in the Sleepy Eye Invitational on Friday night.

Erizen Traconis led Sleepy Eye with 8 points, four rebounds and two steals. Cam Schottle scored 6 for the Indians.

Sleepy Eye will play TMB at 11:15 p.m. Saturday in the Sleepy Eye Invitational.

Thursday Night

Springfield 65, RRC 35

SPRINGFIELD — A balanced attack led Springfield past Red Rock Central 65-35 on Thursday night in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Logan Richert and Brayden Sturm led the Tigers with 9 points apiece, while Mason Krick, Carter Hillesheim and Ben Potter each added 8 points and Noah Vogel had 7 points. James Coffland led Springfield on the boards with nine rebounds, while Brendon Buerkle had seven rebounds.

Springfield (1-0) is at Sleepy Eye on Tuesday night in Tomahawk Conference action.
