Knights get past Mustangs in 9-man

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s remained unbeaten with a 16-14, come-from-behind victory over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday in 9-man football action.

The Mustangs took a 6-0 lead on a 3-yard touchdown by Ashten Bergstrom in the first quarter, then led 14-0 after Hayden VanderVoort scored on a 2-yard run. Bergstrom scored on the 2-point conversion in the second quarter.

The Knights got on the board in the second quarter after Owen Weiss scored on a touchdown pass from Carson Domeier. Domeier scored a 7-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to make cut the BLHS lead to 14-12, and Trent Steffensmeier scored later in the third quarter to give the Knights an 18-14 lead.

The Mustangs got a late safety to cut the final deficit to 18-16. St. Mary’s will host Southland at 7 p.m. on Friday night.
