NEW ULM — Two Martin Luther College softball players received All-UMAC honors from the conference on Monday. Lisa Hoffer was named First Team All-UMAC by the conference, and was also named to the All-Defensive Team at second base. Brett Burger was named Honorable Mention All-UMAC.

Hoffer earned First Team All-UMAC honors in her debut season after hitting a team-best .462 for the season. She also led the team in home runs (four), runs batted in (32), doubles (11), slugging percentage (.731) and on-base percentage (.474). Hoffer ranked third in the UMAC in batting average, and fourth in home runs, RBI and slugging percentage over the full season.

During conference play, Hoffer hit .439 with two home runs, six doubles and 21 RBI, and finished among the top five in the UMAC in each of the last three categories.

In the field, Hoffer started all 26 games at second base, recording a .943 fielding percentage. Hoffer was even more steady during UMAC play, committing only two errors in 16 games with a fielding percentage of .963.

This is the second honor postseason honor Hoffer has received this season. Last week, she was named First Team All-Midwest Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

Burger received her first all-conference recognition of her four-year career. After spending all her time as a starting middle infielder her first three seasons, Burger expanded her role to be the Knights’ ace in the circle in 2021.

Burger finished the 2021 season with an 8-9 record and 4.47 ERA in 108.0 innings. She recorded 40 strikeouts, and finished the season with tied for the fourth-most wins and the sixth-most innings pitched in a single-season by an MLC pitcher in program history.

At the plate, Burger hit .392 for the season, but batted a team-best .440 in UMAC play while splitting her time between pitcher and shortstop.

Burger was also named the MLC recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, given to one player on each team who best exemplified sportsmanship during the season.
