Anderson hurls gem for St. Mary’s

St. Mary’s 15, BLHS 0, 5 innings

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s pitcher Mark Anderson made his first varsity start one to remember as St. Mary’s crushed Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game on Monday.

Anderson pitched threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out seven and walking one. Spencer Hoffman went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Knights and Carson Domeier was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Patrick Hoffmann was 3 for 3.

St. Mary’s is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 14, ML/GHEC/T 2, 5 innings

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye topped Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman in a nonconference baseball game on Tuesday.

Arian Saenz pitched three innings, allowed two hits, one run, two walks and struck out three. Kadon Strong was 3 for 4 with a double, a three-run home run and five RBIs. Jackson Huiras was 2 for 2 with a double, four runs and an RBI.

Sleepy Eye (7-6, 5-6) hosts Wabasso on Thursday.

Mankato Loyola 17, Madelia 4, 5 innings

MADELIA — Mankato Loyola defeated Madelia in five innings on Tuesday.

Elijah McCabe gave up nine hits and seven runs in two innings. Dylan Grev gave up 10 runs on 11 hits for Madelia.

McCabe also had an RBI for Madelia (5-11), which is at Mountain Lake Area on Friday.

Prep softball

Marshall 10, New Ulm 9

MARSHALL — Marshall defeated New Ulm in a Big South Conference softball game on Thursday.

Miranda Suess took the loss, giving up seven hits in two innings. She allowed seven earned runs and two walks, striking out one.

Anna Lee led the Eagles offensively, going 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Maddi O’Connor was 2 for 5 with two triples, two RBIs and two runs and Laura Bertrang was 2 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

New Ulm (7-8) hosts Worthington on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 20, ML/GHEC/T 10

TRUMAN — Sleepy Eye defeated ML/GHEC/T in a nonconference softball game on Tuesday.

Emma Schieffert went 4 for 4 with an RBI and Morgan Klein went 4 for 5 with a triple and two RBIs. McKenna Strong was 3 for 6 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Steph Fernandez was 3 for 6 with a triple and two RBIs.

Morgan Klein earned the win, going seven innings and striking out nine.

Sleepy Eye hosts Mountain Lake Area on Friday.

Madelia 13, St. Clair/Loyola 0, 5 innings

ST. CLAIR — Madelia’s Corban Tatro tossed a one-hitter as Madelia defeated St. Clair/Loyola in a Valley Conference softball game on Tuesday.

Addie Ahern was 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBIs to lead Madelia offensively. Abby Jacobs scored two runs and drove in two and Ashley Sorenson scored three runs. Madelia finished the game with seven hits.

Tatro went all five innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight.

Madelia (6-6, 1-3) is at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Thursday.

Nicollet 9, MCW 0

NICOLLET — Nicollet defeated Martin County West in a Valley Conference game on Tuesday.

Marah Hulke had 15 strikeouts and didn’t allow a hit. She also scored three runs. Leah Bode, Olivia Whitmore and Samantha Kettner each had two hits.

Mankato East boys 349, New Ulm 359

New Ulm girls 424, Mankato East Inc.

NEW ULM — Kyle Esser and Evan Griebel each shot a 40 for New Ulm on Tuesday at the New Ulm Country Club.

On the girls’ side, Kate Frauenholtz shot a 94 to lead the way and Paige Dreckman shot a 103.

Prep track and field

MVL competes at Sleepy Eye

SLEEPY EYE — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys’ track and field team took second with 67 points and the girls were third with 62 points on Monday.

For the boys, Sam Blomberg won the 110-hurdles (17.25) and the 4×800-relay team won in 9:29.16. Isaiah Heins won the 3,200 (11:40.22) and Nate Fliszar was second (12:01.29). Jordan Richtsmeier was second in the discus (99-11) and the 4×200-relay team was second in 1:41.38. Will Kaesermann was second in the triple jump (33-10).

For the girls, Anna Schwartz won the long jump (13-9) and Naomi Anderson won the triple jump (28-10.5). Clare Fischer won the 1,600 (6:03.41) and the 3,200 (11:53.94). Mia Johnson was second in the 800 (2:47.56) and the 4×100-relay team was second in 57.33. Rylee Woller was second in the high jump (4-8).
