NEW ULM — It took a little while for the New Ulm offense to get going, but once it did, it was tough to stop.

New Ulm defeated Waseca 15-5 in six innings on Tuesday in a Big South Conference softball game at New Ulm High School. With the win, New Ulm improved to 3-1 on the season.

New Ulm had the bases loaded in both the first and second innings but failed to score. However, the Eagles took advantage of 19 free passes in the game and put that to good use, scoring three runs in the third inning thanks to a triple by Emma Brudelie.

The Eagles then scored five runs in the fourth inning, thanks in part to a two-run single by Gracie Linbo. New Ulm then tacked on four runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning to finish the game at 15-5.

Miranda Suess pitched the first two innings for New Ulm and Karson Schmid earned the win, pitching three innings. Eighth-grader Ramsey Hopp made her varsity debut, pitching an inning and she also had an RBI. Calyn Glaser had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Eagles.

New Ulm looks to continue its hot start when it hosts Marshall on Thursday.
