Prep football: Wabasso blanks Springfield, Nicollet rolls over A-C

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Springfield in a Southwest District football game on Friday.

Carter Benz threw for 136 yards and two touchdown passes and he also rushed for another to lead the Rabbits. He threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Will Carlson and a 5-yard touchdown pass to Matt Evink. He also had a 5-yard run 5-yard run for a TD.

Nick Marotzke had a 10-yard TD run for the Rabbits and Evink also kicked a 22-yard field goal. Marotzke finished with 79 yards rushing on the night.

Springfield (0-1) hosts Adrian-Ellsworth on Friday and Wabasso (1-0) is at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Thursday.

Nicollet 26, A-C 6

NICOLLET — Nathan Duis threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more as Nicollet cruised to a nine-man football victory over Alden-Conger on Friday.

Duis threw for 141 yards and Shane Stevenson had two catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Tyler Laven had 12 tackles and two sacks and Austin Gieseke had seven tackles and four sacks.

Nicollet (1-0) hosts Mountain Lake Area (0-1) on Friday.

MCC 35, Sleepy Eye 12

SLEEPY EYE — Murray County defeated Sleepy Eye in Southwest District football game on Friday.

Kegan Heiderscheidt threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kadon Strong to give the Indians a 6-0 lead, but the Rebels took the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown. MCC scored 35 unanswered points to grab the big lead.

Heiderscheidt threw another TD pass to Adrian Dena to finish the scoring for the Indians.

Sleepy Eye (0-1) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Friday.

Madelia 30, BLHS 22

MADELIA — Ethan Arndts 37-yard touchdown pass with 1:37 to go led Madelia to a nine-man football win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.

Arndt went 8-for-16 for 180 yards passing. Arndt also ran it in for a 15-yard touchdown and two extra points. Another big score for Madelia was Dillon Grev’s 70-yard punt return. Vaughn Nolan ran 14 times for 89 yards.

Defensively, Madelia was led by Vaughn Nolan’s 12 tackles and Amauri Perez-Garcia’s 10 tackles.

Madelia is at Lyle-Pacelli on Friday.

WWG 24, CM 20

MORGAN — Westbrook-Walnut Grove defeated Cedar Mountain in a 9-man South Subdistrict football game on Friday night.

For the Cougars, Caden Kleinschmidt had 106 yards receiving and Nick Freitag had 91 yards receiving. Matt Zeug had 19 carries for 103 yards and a touchdown and Cade Schiller also had a rushing touchdown.

TMB 34, MVL 12

TRACY — Tracy-Milroy-Balaton defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran in prep football action on Friday night.

There were no stats provided to The Journal.

MVL will host Wabasso on Thursday.
