New Ulm edges Worthington
NEW ULM — New Ulm edged Worthington 4-3 on Tuesday in Big South Crossover girls’ tennis action.
Lydia King defeated Brooke Nordseth 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles in what was a big match for the Eagles. King was pleased with her results on the afternoon.
“Yeah. I felt that I played well,” King said. “I was off a little in the second set, but I came back.”
Makiah Otto downed Kessey Aljets at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-0. Abby Hietala defeated Marah Darling 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Worthington’s Ivy Jenson defeated New Ulm’s Malia Emerson 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
In doubles action, Emily Guggisberg and Maddie O’Connor of New Ulm beat Stephie Bauman and Bailey Newman 6-7, (4-7), 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Worthington’s Calah Riley and Madison Staffen downed Marissa Todesco and Alex Vigil at No. 2 doubles 1-6, 7-6, (8-6), 6-3. At third doubles, the Worthington team of Madison Johnson and Riley Nickel defeated the New Ulm team of Melanie Merkel and Nevaeh Ubl.
The Eagles will host Worthington on Saturday in a Section 2AA play-in match. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals of the Section 2AA Tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
