Brewers crush Essig

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Brewers spotted Essig an early 4-0 lead after two innings before outscoring the Bluejays 15-1 in the next six innings to win their fourth straight game with a 15-5 win.

The game was stopped in the bottom of the eighth inning when New Ulm scored six runs to put the 10-run rule in effect.

Mitch Bockenstedt got the win in relief for New Ulm, now 6-2. The righthander pitched the final 6 1/3 innings in relief of stater Nick Fischer who allowed four Essig runs in 1 2/3 innings. Bockenstedt fanned 14 batters.

Eric Scheibel took the loss for Essig, now 2-4.

Wade French and Braden Zimmerman each had four hits for New Ulm with J.T. Hoffmann and Hunter Ranweiler each collecting three hits. Andrew Peters had three RBIs.

Hoffmann had a two-run inside-the-park home run in the third inning while French blasted a solo home run in the eighth.

Essig took a 4-0 lead after two innings due in large part to three New Um errors.

But the Brewers, who play at 1 p.m. Sunday at Fairfax, scored three runs in the third on a Judd Davis single and Hoffmann’s inside-the-park home run to center field. Hunter Ranweiler doubled and scored on a Braden Zimmermann single.

New Um scored a run in the fifth on singles from French, Zimmerman and Peters before scoring four runs in the sixth. A Davis triple and doubles from Zimmerman and Peters were the big blows.

The Brewers added a run in the seventh before they scored six runs in the eighth on a French moon shot home run and a double from Hoffmann and a Ranweiler triple.
