Prep roundup: Springfield boys advance in 2A playoffs, Nicollet boys, St. Mary’s boys advance

Springfield 77, St. Clair 65

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield eliminated St. Clair from the Section 2A, South Subsection playoffs on Saturday.

Decker Scheffler led the Tigers with 26 points and Mitchell Buerkle finished with 14 points. Nolan Hovland scored 12 for the Tigers, who battle No. 3 seed Mountain Lake Area at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday at Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial High School.

Nicollet 73, MCW 40

NICOLLET — Nicollet crushed Martin County West in a Section 2A, South Subsection boys’ basketball game on Saturday.

Shane Stevensen led the Raiders with 20 points and seven rebounds and Riley Hulke finished with 14 points and seven assists. Riley Mans had 12 points and Colton Thomsen had 8 points and 11 rebounds.

Nicollet plays Waterville-Elysian-Morristown at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Lake Crystal.

Mayer Lutheran 78, Cedar Mountain 44

MAYER — Mayer Lutheran defeated Cedar Mountain in a Section 2A, North Subsection boys’ basketball playoff game on Saturday.

Trey Peterson-Juhl led the Cougars with 15 points.

Mayer Lutheran is playing New Ulm Cathedral at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday at St. Peter High School.

St. Mary’s 69, LPHT 66

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity in a Section 2A, North Subsection boys’ basketball playoff game on Saturday.

Carson Domeier led the Knights with 26 points and Nick Labat finished with 18. Trent Steffensmeier scored 9 for the Knights.

St. Mary’s plays BOLD, the No. 1 seed, at 6 p.m. on Thursday at St. Peter High School.
