Springfield 79, Sleepy Eye 56

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield downed Sleepy Eye 79-56 on Thursday night in Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball action.

Decker Scheffler led the Tigers with 22 points, while Mason Leonard had 17 points and Mitchell Buerkle added 15 points.

Sleepy Eye was led by Logan Netzke, who had 19 points.

Springfield (18-2, 11-2) hosts undefeated BOLD at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in nonconference action, while Sleepy Eye (2-18, 1-12) is at Truman for a 7:15 p.m. nonconference game Friday.

Waseca 74, New Ulm 49

WASECA — Waseca defeated New Ulm 74-49 on Thursday in a Big South Conference boys’ basketball game.

New Ulm’s leading scorers were Reece Melby with 15 points and Brayden Gearity with 10 points.

New Ulm plays at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at Belle Plaine.

Nicollet 85, TCU 52

NICOLLET –­ Nicollet defeated Tri City United 85-52 on Thursday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

For Nicollet, Riley Hulke was 18 points and 14 assists, Colton Thomsen 15 points and six rebounds, Ben Radke 12 points and six rebounds and Dylan Willaert and Collin Bode each had 10 points.

Nicollet hosts Mountain Lake Area at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

MCW 65, CM 63

MORGAN — Martin County West defeated Cedar Mountain in a nonconference boys’ basketball game on Thursday.

Chris Dow led the Cougars with 21 points and Trey Peterson-Juhl finished with 14 points.

Madelia 79, Wabasso 72

MADELIA — Madelia topped Wabasso 79-72 on Thursday night in nonconference boys’ basketball action.

Ja’Sean Glover led the Blackhawks with 41 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Kurt Lugo added 19 points and six rebounds.

No stats were submitted by Wabasso.

Madelia’s home game for Friday against Edgerton has been rescheduled to Feb. 20 at Madelia. The Blackhawks (7-11) next play at 5 p.m. Saturday against Lyle/Austin Pacelli at Bethany Lutheran College.

Girls’ basketball

St. Mary’s 64, GFW 39

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 64-39 on Thursday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

St. Mary’s was led by Madison Mathiowetz with 34 points, nine rebounds and two steals, Sydney Windschitl with 12 points, nine rebounds, three steals and four assists and Reagan Severson with 10 points, three assists and two steals.

For GFW, Brynn Busse scored 12 points and Abby Heimkes and Kaity Lee each scored 8 points.

GFW hosts Sibley East at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. St. Mary’s (19-2, 13-2) plays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.

Nicollet/Loyola 43

NICOLLET — Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton defeated Nicollet/Loyola 50-43 on Thursday in a Valley Conference Showcase girls’ basketball game.

Nicollet/Loyola was led by Zoey Weller with 14 points and Marah Hulke with 9 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Josi Hansen, Megan Frutiger and Hayley Selby each scored 5 points for Nicollet/Loyola.

Nicollet/Loyola (5-14) plays in the Valley Conference Showcase on Saturday.

Waseca 64, New Ulm 63

NEW ULM — Waseca defeated New Ulm 64-63 on Thursday in a Big South Conference girls’ basketball game.

New Ulm was led by Hannah Osborne with 25 points and six rebounds, Kirsten Dennis with 18 points, Daviney Dreckman with 11 points and Olivia Wick with seven rebounds and three blocks.

New Ulm plays at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Hutchinson.

Sleepy Eye 60,

Redwood Valley 56

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye defeated Redwood Valely 60-56 on Thursday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

The Indians were led by Kadence Hesse with 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals, Brea Mertz had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Brooklyn Moldan had 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals and Kaydince Thoms had 10 points, four rebounds and four steals.

Sleepy Eye hosts Springfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

BLHS 68, BOLD 66

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated BOLD 68-66 on Thursday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

BLHS was led by Kristi Kottke with 19 points, five assists and one block, Sara Kottke with 19 points and Allison Milbrandt with 16 points.

For BOLD, Brena Weis scored 20 points and Makayla Snow scored 19 points.

BLHS plays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at New Ulm Cathedral.

Prep wrestling

Wabasso/RRC 39,

Redwood Valley 38

REDWOOD FALLS — Wabasso/Red Rock Central defeated Redwood Valley 39-38 on Thursday night in a prep wrestling dual.

The Bobcats got a pin from Mason Irlbeck (145) in 2:56, a pin from Josh Hesse (152) in 5:56 and a pin from Derek Werner (220) in 36 seconds to lead the way. Werner is currently the No. 4-ranked Class A wrestler at 195.
