Cathedral boys rout Sleepy Eye, St. Mary’s tops BLHS

Cathedral 67, Sleepy Eye 45

SLEEPY EYE — New Ulm Cathedral defeated Sleepy Eye 67-45 on Monday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Sleepy Eye was led by Jon Zinniel with 32 points, Kegan Heiderscheidt with 18 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists and Erizen Traconis with 10 points.

Sleepy Eye plays at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Springfield. Cathedral hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

St. Mary’s 75, BLHS 53

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Monday.

Nick Labat led the Knights with 17 points and Carson Domeier finished with 15 points. Kyle Goblirsch had 12 points and Blake Steffensmeier scored 11 points.

St. Mary’s is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday.

MVL 62, Loyola 57

MANKATO — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Mankato Loyola 62-57 on Monday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

MVL was led by Jace Marotz with 19 points, five rebounds and four assists, Dunwa Omot with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steal and Mason Cox with 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

MVL plays at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at New Ulm Cathedral.

GFW 73, Cedar Mountain 68

MORGAN — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop topped Cedar Mountain 73-68 on Tuesday night in Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball action.

The Cougars were led by Trey Peterson-Juhl with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Chris Dow added 15 points. Dakota Pendleton had 12 points and six assists.

No stats were submitted for GFW.

Springfield 86, Wabasso 52

WABASSO — Springfield downed Wabasso 86-52 on Monday night in Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball action.

Isaac Kronback led the Rabbits with 26 points, while Will Carlson had 10 points and five assists.

Girls’ basketball

Nicollet/Loyola 66,

AC/GE 54

ALDEN — Nicollet/Loyola defeated Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 66-54 on Monday in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game.

For Nicollet/Loyola, Hayley Selby had 19 points and 18 rebounds, Megan Frutiger had 19 points and 13 rebounds, Josie Hansen scored 11 points and Marah Hulke had 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

Nicollet/Loyola (5-12) plays in the Valley Conference Showcase on Thursday.

St. Mary’s 66, BLHS 58

HECTOR — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 66-58 on Monday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

St. Mary’s leading scorers were Madison Mathiowetz with 27 points, Sydney Windschitl with 22 points and Reagan Severson with 12 points.

BLHS was led by Sarah Kottke with 33 points, five steals and one block, Kristi Kottke with 10 points and Rachel Kottke with 8 points, seven rebounds, five steals and one block.

BLHS hosts Cedar Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary’s hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

GFW 55,

Cedar Mountain 35

FAIRFAX — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Cedar Mountain 55-35 on Monday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

GFW was led by Brynn Busse with 14 points, Kaity Lee with 12 points and Abby Heimkes with 11 points.

Cedar Mountain’s leading scorer was Megan Sandgren with 18 points.

GFW (5-14) plays at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s. Cedar Mountain hosts Wabasso at 7 p.m. on Friday.
