Prep roundup: Omot leads MVL boys past Knights

MVL 88, St. Mary’s 41

SLEEPY EYE — Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 88-41 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

MVL was led by Dunwa Omot with 24 points, four assists and six steals, Mason Cox with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Jace Marotz with 18 points, four rebounds and five assists.

For St. Mary’s, Carson Domeier had 17 points and Nick Labat had 8 points and three rebounds and three assists.

MVL plays at Mankato Loyola at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. St. Mary’s hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

Cedar Mountain 58

MORGAN — Springfield defeated Cedar Mountain in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday.

Caden Kleinschmidt led Cedar Mountain with 14 points and Trey Peterson-Juhl scored 13 points. Cade Schiller finished with 11 points.

No stats were available for Springfield.

Cedar Mountain (8-10, 4-7) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Monday night.

Nicollet 86, Alden-Conger 51

NICOLLET — Nicollet’s Riley Hulke scored 33 points, had eight assists and eight steals as the Raiders defeated Alden-Conger in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday.

Colton Thompson had 12 points and seven rebounds and Ben Radke had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Jon Mans and Shane Stevensen each scored 9 points.

GFW 77, BLHS 72

FAIRFAX — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday.

Johnnie Ambrose led GFW with 23 points. Dom Henrichs and Damian Hopp each scored 18 for the Thunderbirds.

MADELIA — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther defeated Madelia 44-41 on Friday in a Valley Conference boys’ basketball game.

Madelia was led by Ja’Sean Glover with 33 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and two assists.

Madelia hosts Waterville-Elaysian-Morristown at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

BLHS 54, GFW 39

HECTOR — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart picked up its sixth consecutive victory on Friday night by defeating Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 54-39 in Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball action.

BLHS (16-3, 9-3) was led by Sara Kottke, who had 17 points, five rebounds and four blocks. Maddy Wulkan added 10 points for the Mustangs, while Allison Milbrandt had 8 points and five rebounds.

For GFW (4-15, 4-9), Abby Heimkes led the way with 20 points, while Brynn Busse added 7 points.

BLHS hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday, while GFW hosts Cedar Mountain on Monday.

MORGAN — Springfield defeated Cedar Mountain 72-25 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Springfield’s leading scorers were Sydney Hauger with 23 points and Brooklyn Sturm with 13 points.

Megan Sandgren and Bella Harmening each had 6 points for Cedar Mountain.

Cedar Mountain plays at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop. Springfield hosts Wabasso at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

TRUMAN — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman defeated Nicollet/Loyola 67-61 on Friday in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game.

Nicollet/Loyola was led by Hayley Selby with 23 points and 11 rebounds, Josi Hansen with 15 points and Kendall Robertson with 8 points.

Nicollet/Loyola plays in the Valley Conference Showcase on Monday.

BLUE EARTH — New Ulm defeated Blue Earth Area in a gymnastics match up on Friday.

New Ulm’s Kayla Goblirsch took first all around with a 36.15. Ella Freiderich took second with 34.05.

Goblirsch took first in vault with a 9.2, first in bars with a 8.45, first in beam with a 9.15 and first in floor with 9.35.

Freiderich took second in bars with a 8.25, second in beam with a 9.25 and second in floor with a 9.25.

Also for New Ulm, Anna Schwartz took fourth in vault with a 8.725, Madison Miller took fourth in bars with a 7.4 and Emily Guggisberg took fifth in vault with a 8.6, fourth in beam with a 7.65 and fifth in floor with a 8.775.
