Mustangs hold off Knights despite record-setting night from Mathiowetz

BLHS 83, St. Mary’s 79

SLEEPY EYE — Despite Madison Mathiowetz’s single-game school record 50 points, Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s was unable to hold off Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday in Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball action.

Mathiowetz also had 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals for St. Mary’s. Also for St. Mary’s, Sydney Windschitl had 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals and Reagan Severson had 9 points and three assists.

BLHS was led by Maddy Wulkam with 22 points and three steals and Allison Milbrandt with 20 points and three assists. Sara Kottke also had 17 points, 12 rebounds and three assists for BLHS and Rachel Kottke with 13 points.

BLHS hosts Mountain Lake at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. St. Mary’s (10-2, 5-2) plays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

BOLD 63, Nicollet/Loyola 45

NICOLLET — BOLD defeated Nicollet/Loyola 63-45 on Friday in a nonconference girls’ basketball game.

Nicollet/Loyola’s leading scorers were Marah Hulke, who had 12 points, Hayley Selby, who had 9 points and Josi Hansen and Megan Frutiger, who each had 7 points.

Nicollet/Loyola hosts Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

GFW 82, Cedar Mountain 48

MORGAN — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Cedar Mountain 82-48 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

GFW was led by Brynn Busse with 21 points, Shelby Ramirez with 14 points and Taylor Haas with 13 points.

For Cedar Mountain, Megan Sandgren had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Trista Smith had 15 points.

Cedar Mountain (1-8) plays at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Wabasso. GFW plays at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at Sibley East.

Boys’ basketball

Springfield 91,

Wabasso 39

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated Wabasso 91-39 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

For Springfield, Mitchell Buerkle led the way with 26 points, while Decker Scheffler scored 23 points. Mason Leonard also chipped in 13 points for the Tigers.

Wabasso was led by Will Carlson with 11 points and Mason Dallenbach with 9 points.

Springfield plays against Hayfield at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday in Rochester. Wabasso plays at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Cedar Mountain.

Cedar Mountain 73,

GFW 60

WINTHROP — Cedar Mountain defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 73-60 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game.

Cedar Mountain’s Trey Peterson-Juhl had 19 points, 12 rebounds and four assists to lead the way, while Chris Dow had 20 points and two assists and Caden Kleinschmidt had 15 points, 11 rebounds and two assists.

The leading scorers for GFW were Dominic Henrichs with 16 points, Johnnie Ambrose with 14 points and Ryan Lavrenz with 10 points.

Cedar Mountain hosts Wabasso at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. GFW plays at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sibley East 60,

Nicollet 46

NICOLLET — Sibley East defeated Nicollet 60-46 on Friday in a nonconference boys’ basketball game.

Nicollet was led by Shane Stevensen with 21 points and nine rebounds and Riley Hulke with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Nicollet plays at 7:15 p.m. on Monday at Cleveland.
