Four area boys’ basketball players and three area girls’ basketball players were recently named by Minnesota Basketball News as Top 50 players for the 2019-2020 season.

Making the Class A Top 50 list for the boys was New Ulm Cathedral’s Jon Zinniel, Springfield’s Decker Scheffler and Nicollet’s Riley Hulke. Minnesota Valley Lutheran’s Dunwa Omot was named to the Top 50 list for Class AA boys.

Making the Top 50 list for the Class A girls was Sleepy Eye St. Marys’ Madison Mathiowetz, Springfield’s Sydney Hauger and Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart’s Sara Kottke.

All seven athletes were All-Journal basketball players last season.

The first issue of Minnesota Basketball News lists the Top 50 Players for each class and ranks the Top 20 teams in each class along with providing highlights, stories, photos and columns.
