New Ulm gets past Luverne 2-1

LUVERNE — The New Ulm girls’ hockey team picked up its second win of the season after a 2-1 win over Luverne in Big South Conference action on Tuesday night.

Ally Steffensmeier got the Eagles (2-2) on the board first with an unassisted goal in the first period before Luverne knotted things up in the second period on a goal from Roz Oye. Julia Helget was able to break the tie later in the second period with a goal on an assist from Maddie O’Connor.

Seventh-grader Ava Brennan got the win in net for the Eagles. She made nine saves.

New Ulm is at Minnesota River next for a 7 p.m. game Thursday at the Le Sueur Ice Arena.
