Former MVL volleyball player honored by AVCA

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the fourth annual AVCA Thirty Under 30 High School Awards.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran graduate Chelsey Hoops (Hammerschmidt), the head coach at Minneapolis DeLaSalle High School, was honored by the AVCA. Hoops played for former MVL coach Julie Detjen and graduated from MVL in 2009.

The website www.avca.org/awards/thirty-under-30-awards said this of Hoops: “Her passion is rubbing off, the parents are receptive, and more importantly the girls are working hard to reach their potential largely because of the encouragement from Hoops.”

The overall Thirty Under 30 Award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport, and in 2016 it was expanded for exclusively high school coaches.

In order to be considered for the honor, high school coaches meeting the proper age requirement must be an AVCA member and actively coaching in one of the AVCA’s Signature Affiliate or Affiliate Partner states.
