Prep roundup: Eagles rout Trojans in girls’ soccer, NU tennis team falls to Hutch, Nicollet VB tops Loyola

WORTHINGTON — New Ulm defeated Worthington 10-2 on Tuesday in a Big South Conference girls’ soccer game. It was the 99th career victory for head coach Jonathan Johnson.

Livia Reinarts led New Ulm with four goals and one assist. Also for New Ulm, Madison Roufs had three goals and two assists, Bryn Nesvold had two goals and one assist and Paige Kalis scored one goal. Jessica Moellenhoff and Bryn Brown each had an assist.

Kendra Nesvold had 12 saves for New Ulm, seven in the first half of the game and five in the second.

New Ulm (10-4-1) hosts Mankato Loyola at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Hutchinson 7, New Ulm 0

HUTCHINSON — The New Ulm girls’ tennis team lost to Hutchinson in the Section 2A playoffs on Tuesday.

Makiah Otto lost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Abby Hietala lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Malia Emerson lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Lydia King lost 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles.

Nicollet 3, Loyola 1

MANKATO — Nicollet defeated Mankato Loyola 25-14, 21-25, 25-19, 25-13 on Tuesday in a Valley Conference volleyball match.

Nicollet’s Jill Thompson had 30 kills, Marah Hulke had 12 digs, Riley Hoffman had 11 digs, Jackie Thompson had 10 assists and Olivia Whitmore had two blocks.

Nicollet (10-1) hosts Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Sleepy Eye 3,

Cedar Mountain 2

MORGAN — Sleepy Eye defeated Cedar Mountain 25-19, 16-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-9 in Tomahawk Conference volleyball on Tuesday.

For the Indians, Alexa Steffl had 15 kills, 25 digs and two aces. Emma Schieffert added seven kills, 18 digs and two aces and Sandy Flores finished with 26 set assists and 19 digs.

For Cedar Mountain, Nadia Meyers had 15 kills, 18 digs, 15 set assists, and five blocks, while Hailey Hollar had 10 kills, 16 digs, six assists, and five ace serves. Morgan Engholm also led the Cougars with 52 digs and three ace serves, while Shaylee Schiller had 22 digs.

The Indians are 9-9 overall and play Thursday at Wabasso.

St. Mary’s 3, GFW 2

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 17-25, 15-7 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Madison Mathiowetz had 35 digs and 17 kills for St. Mary’s and Lauren Hoffmann had 16 digs. Sydney Windschitl had 10 kills, Allie Labat had 32 set assists and Bella Hoffmann had 17 set assists.

For GFW, Shelby Ramirez had 16 kills and one ace, Hannah Panitzke had 11 kills, 23 digs and two aces, Brynn Busse had 22 set assists and 20 digs and Katie Lee had 29 digs.

GFW hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

St. Mary’s host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wabasso 3, BLHS 1

HECTOR — Wabasso defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 29-27, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Wabasso’s Ally Fenger had nine kills and two blocks, Halle Huhnerkoch had 12 digs, Bella Brand had 10 digs and three aces, Cora Eichten had 14 kills and Avery Carlson had 21 assists.

For BLHS, Allison Dornseif had two digs, 34 set assists and three aces, Sara Kottke had 11 digs, one block and 21 kills, Marissa Ebers had 10 digs, two kills and one ace and Katie Buboltz had 19 digs and three aces.

BLHS hosts New Ulm Cathedral at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Wabasso hosts Sleepy Eye at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Tri-City United 3,

Sibley East 0

ARLINGTON –Tri-City United swept Sibley East 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 on Tuesday in a nonconference volleyball match.

Sibley East was led by Shanise Bates, who had 13 kills and 11 digs, Jennifer Wolter, who had 10 kills, McKenna Kranz, who had 17 set assists and Arayah St. John, who had eight digs and four kills.

Sibley East (6-12, 0-4) plays at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Mayer Luther in Arlington.
