NEW ULM — Martin Luther College junior running back Joshuah Kren was named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Kren won the honor after finishing with 215 total yards and three touchdowns in Saturday’s 43-14 win over Greenville as the Knights opened UMAC play.

Kren scored all three of his touchdowns in the first half as MLC built a 27-7 halftime lead. Kren pushed the MLC lead to 14-0 following an 80-yard receiving touchdown midway through the first quarter, and added a 10-yard scoring run early in the second quarter to push the MLC lead to 20-0.

After Greenville scored to cut the deficit to 20-7, Kren raced down the sidelines for an 81-yard touchdown run to go over 100 yards for the second time in his collegiate career (first time this season).

Kren currently leads in MLC in touchdowns (five) and yards per carry (7.0), and ranks second in rushing yards (209).

Kren and the Knights will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to St. Scholastica for a game scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

Women’s golf

NEW ULM — MLC senior Alison Lindemann was named UMAC Women’s Golf Player of the Week for the second consecutive week on Monday.

Lindemann won individual medalist honors in two out of three events last week and averaged a score of 88.3 during the three tournaments.

Lindemann started the week with a first place finish at the UNW Invite at Gross National Golf Course on September 24 with a round of 86. That score matched her winning score from the 2018 UNW Invite at the same course.

After tying for 10th place at the Viking Invite at Crow River Golf Course on September 27, Lindemann picked up her second win of the week on September 28 with a first place finish at the BLC Invite at Oakdale Golf Course. Lindemann’s winning round of 84 set a new personal best.

Lindemann and the Knights are set to return to action on Thursday, for the first day (of three) of the UMAC Women’s Golf Championships. Lindemann earned All-UMAC honors as a junior in 2018 following a seventh-place finish at least year’s event.

Women’s soccer

NEW ULM — MLC junior Mollie Fischer was named UMAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday.

Fischer won the honor after stopping 18 of 20 shots in goal over the course of two games to help MLC to a 1-1 record during the week.

Fischer stopped 14 of 16 shots against UW-River Falls in a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday and then saved all four shots on goal in a 2-0 win at North Central in Saturday’s UMAC opener.

The NCU shutout was the fourth shutout this season for Fischer, who leads all UMAC keepers in goals against average (1.2) and shutouts (four) while ranking second in save percentage (.873).

Fischer and the Knights are 4-4 overall and 1-0 in UMAC play, and will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Crown College for a nonconference game scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
