Nicollet, Cedar Mountain, Sleepy Eye compete at Nicollet Tournament

on Saturday

NICOLLET — Nicollet took first at its home tournament on Saturday, going 4-0 and picking up a 25-13, 25-16 win over Mankato Loyola, a 25-16, 25-17 win over United South Central, a 25-16, 25-17 win over Cedar Mountain and a 25-17, 25-20 win over Sleepy Eye.

Sleepy Eye finished 3-1 at the tournament, while Cedar Mountain went 0-4. Loyola was third at 2-2 and USC was fourth at 1-3.

Leading Nicollet in kills for the day were Jill Thompson with 43 and Hailey Stoecker with 21. Also for the Raiders on Saturday, Marah Hulke had 31 set assists and five ace serves, while Jackie Thompson had 30 set assists.

Thompson also had six ace serves, while Hayley Selby had six ace blocks and 26 digs. Tayler Johnson added 18 total digs for Nicollet also on Saturday, while Ruby Hoffman had five ave serves.

For the Cougars, Nadia Meyers had 20 kills on Saturday, while Mykenna Vollmer had 17 kills. Also for the Cougars, Morgan Engholm had 66 total digs, while Shaylee Schiller added 29 total digs.

No stats were reported by Sleepy Eye.

The Raiders are now 8-8 on the season and their next match is home against Minnesota Valley Lutheran Monday. The Cougars (2-14) host Sleepy Eye (8-9) Tuesday.

Wabasso 34, Adrian 7

ADRIAN — Wabasso took down Adrian 34-7 on Saturday afternoon in Southwest District, East Subdistrict football action.

Carter Benz was 7 for 11 for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns and also rushed for a touchdown for the Rabbits. Also for Wabasso, Nick Marotzke ran for 81 yards on 12 carries, while Lance Wagner rushed for 64 yards and touchdown on 11 carries.

Will Carlson caught three passes for 67 yards and a touchdown for Wabasso, while Marotzke had the other touchdown catch, a 6-yarder.

Colby Wall led all Wabasso defenders with 5 1/2 tackles, while Wagner had an interception.

Wabasso (4-1) hosts Springfield on Friday.

Late Friday

Grand Meadow 50, Cedar Mountain 30

GRAND MEADOW — Grand Meadow downed Cedar Mountain 50-30 on Friday night in 9-man football action.

Cade Schiller led the Cougars with three touchdown passes and 337 yards through the air on 21-of-40 passing. Nick Freitag also threw a 25-yard touchdown pass for Cedar Mountain.

Vincent Ochs ran for 62 yards on 15 carries for the Cougars and caught seven passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. Cade Kleinschmidt also ha seven catches for 120 yards and a touchdown, while Maverick Weber and Nick Schacher also added a touchdown reception apiece.

Tanner Mathiowetz led all Cedar Mountain defenders with 5 1/2 tackles, while John Varner added a sack.

Springfield 52, TMB 20

TRACY — Springfield downed Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 52-20 on Friday night in Southwest District, East Subdistrict football action.

The Tigers were led by Decker Scheffler’s 359 yards passing and four touchdowns, while Kaden Johnson ran for 103 yards and a touchdown. Mason Rummel had 105 total yards for the TIgers, 56 rushing and 49 recieving, and added a touchdown rushing.

Nolan Hovland caught five passes for 85 yards also for the Tigers, while Dylan Batzloff had five catches for 62 yards. Springfield also got a touchdown reception by Mason Leonard, a pair of touchdown receptions by Tori Helget, a 48-yard touchdown reception by Jordan Toll and a 37-yard touchdown run from Caleb Hauger.

The Tigers remain perfect to start the year at 5-0 and are at Wabasso next on Friday.
