Sleepy Eye, Lamberton advance to Region 2C tournament

Sleepy Eye 8, Gibbon 3

FAIRFAX — Sleepy Eye advanced to the Region 2C amateur baseball playoffs with a Game 3 victory over Gibbon on Tuesday night in the Tomahawk East League Playoffs.

Andrew Woitas pitched seven innings and allowed three runs on 10 hits to earn the win. He struck out three.

Jon DeRock pitched five innings in the loss. He gave up five hits and two runs.

Sleepy Eye led 4-3 heading into the top of the eighth inning, but scored a single run in the eighth and three more in the ninth to preserve the win.

Alan Woitas was 2 for 6 with an RBI for the Indians and Joey Walter was 2 for 6 with two RBIs. Jake Mielke was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and Carter Brinkman also scored three runs.

DeRock was 3 for 5 at the plate for the Reds and Nolan Huiras was 2 for 5 with two RBIs.

Sleepy Eye is the No. 6 seed in the Region 2C playoffs and will open 2C action at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at New Ulm.

Lamberton 3, Essig 2

LAMBERTON — Lamberton advanced to the Region 2C amateur baseball playoffs with a 3-2 victory over Essig in the Tomahawk East League playoffs on Tuesday.

Johnny Pistulka pitched 1 2/3 innings to get the win. He struck out three. Jay Helget pitched eight innings and gave up three runs in the loss.

Jake Stadick was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Essig and Nick Altermatt was 2 for 4 for Lamberton.

Lamberton plays at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at Springfield in the Region 2C playoffs.
