Tigers sweep Searles in TEL playoffs

Springfield 12, Searles 5

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield advanced to the Region 2C tournament with a sweep of Searles in the Tomahawk East League amateur baseball playoffs on Sunday.

Decker Scheffler was 4 for 5 with four runs scored and two RBIs to lead Springfield. Branden Flock was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored and Ryan Sturm was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Pat Moriarty was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Collin Helget was 4 for 5 with an RBI to lead Searles and Frank Forstner was 2 for 5 with two runs scored.

Shawn Anderson pitched four innings and struck out three to earn the win. He gave up four runs on five hits. Isaac Fink allowed one run on four hits in for innings pitched.

Casey Lux allowed seven runs on eight hits in two innings and took the loss.

Essig 4, Lamberton 2

ESSIG — Essig forced a Game 3 after it defeated Lamberton in the Tomahawk East League amateur baseball playoffs on Sunday.

Jordan Guggisberg was 2 for 4 with two doubles and a run scored for Essig and Jay Helget was 2 for 4. Erich Prokosch was 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Avery Stevens struck out 13 in the complete-game win for Essig. He allowed just one hit and two runs. Adam Heiling gave up two runs on three hits in two innings of work to take the loss.

Game 3 will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Lamberton and the winner advances to the Region 2C playoffs.

Sleepy Eye 13, Gibbon 5

GIBBON — Sleepy Eye forced a Game 3 with a convincing Tomahawk East League playoff win over Gibbon on Saturday.

Alan Woitas pitched seven innings to earn the win for Sleepy Eye. He allowed five runs on 11 hits and he struck out two.

Cody Loverude allowed nine runs on 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.

Carter Brinkman was 4 for 5 with three RBIs and Chad Armbruster also hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Indians. Matt Berkner was 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Sleepy Eye and Joey Walter was 2 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Jon DeRock was 3 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI to lead Gibbon and Justin Schwecke was 4 for 5 with a run scored.

Game 3 is at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Fairfax and the winner advances to the Region 2C playoffs.
